Man suffers serious brain injury after unprovoked assault
Just a month before his 21st birthday, Tom was assaulted outside a nightclub. The unprovoked attack involved a stranger punching Tom in the head, leaving him unconscious.
Tom was rushed to hospital by ambulance but suffered a serious brain injury and spent almost a month in hospital recovering. He sustained two fractures to his skull as well as bruising on the brain.
Since returning home from hospital, Tom has lived with his family who have learned to help support him with the difficulties he faces in day-to-day life due to his brain injury. Just making a simple meal or putting washing in the machine requires support.
Potter Rees Dolan were successful in achieving the maximum CICA award of £500,000.
Tom now has a Deputy within our Court of Protection department who handles his financial affairs as he lacks capacity to do so himself.
Jeanne Evans acted for Tom and commented:
This claim was long-fought and I am delighted we achieved the maximum award of £500,000.
With careful management of this money provided by the professional Deputy, this will provide, for the long term, the independent life Tom has long desired in a safe and supportive manner allowing his family to be just that; his mum and his dad, not his carers.
