Man suffers stroke after being attacked when walking his dog

Potter Rees Dolan client receives half a million pounds through CICA application

William* was 49 when he was subject to an unprovoked assault whilst walking his dog. His attacker stood on his neck which caused him to suffer a stroke leading to a serious brain injury.

William made an Application to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA), a Government Agency responsible for compensating innocent victims of crime.

After being advised by the Panel who considered his case, William sought our assistance.

We obtained evidence for William which dealt with the overall effects of his injury, including the earnings he no longer received because he had been medically retired from his job and to establish the support and therapies he needed.

A significant consequence of William’s injury was the effect it had on his ability to read, write and understand speech. This has very real limitations for him in day to day life.

Before our involvement, William had been offered just over £25,000 by the CICA. With our help, he ultimately received the maximum award of £500,000.

Anne Logan acted on William’s behalf and commented:

I was very pleased to be able to achieve a maximum award for William. Had he not sought legal advice, William may well have accepted the CICA’s very low offer which was clearly insufficient to provide for his future needs.
