Man suffered serious orthopaedic injuries after hit by a car

Potter Rees Dolan were successful in obtaining hundreds of thousands of pounds in compensation

Chris was on his way to work early one morning and was hit by a car whilst crossing the road.

He suffered multiple serious orthopaedic injuries with complex pelvic fractures, dislocation of the left acetabulum, dislocation of the right patella and multiple ligamentous damage within the knee.

Chris also had to undergo a right hinged total knee replacement and was unable to return to his pre-accident employment.

Due to his poor mobility and vulnerability after his accident, he suffered a further injury at home which would not have been sustained but for the accident.

We were successful in reaching a compensation award of £285,000 for Chris which was net of the agreed liability apportionment on a 75/25% basis in September 2016.

Helen Shaw, Senior Litigation Manager at Potter Rees Dolan, acted for Chris and said:

The issue of liability was resolved at quite an early stage in this case but the issue of quantum was rather complex and was contested.

Fortunately, the parties were able to reach very satisfactory terms of compromise at a subsequent Round Table Meeting, when a pragmatic approach was adopted by all the parties involved.
