Over £1 million for woman left brain-injured after car collision

Carol was taken to Intensive Care after she suffered a severe brain injury when her car was hit head-on

Carol, a retired lady with a very active lifestyle, was driving on the way to a fitness class when she was involved in a collision.

Her car was hit head-on by another vehicle when the driver lost control travelling in the opposite direction.

Carol was taken to the nearest hospital and admitted to Intensive Care.

She suffered a severe brain injury, fractures of the ribs, neck and ankle and other serious orthopaedic injuries.

The bleed on Carol’s brain was managed while she underwent numerous operations to mend the fractures.

Carol spent time in rehabilitation and was transferred to a Residential Home while the council made adaptations to her house.

She then underwent numerous complex leg operations which were complicated by infections.

Carol has been left one leg significantly shorter than the other and is very restricted with her mobility being unable to drive, cook and carry out personal care. Her ‘good’ knee has been overloaded and will need replacing.

As a result of her brain injury, Carol now has poor concentration and memory and is now more irritable and impulsive and so needs round-the-clock care to keep her safe and prevent falls and to enable her to enjoy activities and socialising.

A Joint Settlement Meeting in May 2016 reached terms in the sum of £1.75 million in full and final settlement for Carol.

I’m delighted that we were able to achieve this settlement which will allow my client to lead as full a life as possible. Her loved ones were struggling to find the help she needed as the rehabilitation package in place wasn’t meeting her needs and she was stuck at home in her living room suffering great pain and depression.

We became involved and quickly obtained a full admission of liability from the Defendant and substantial interim payments, appointed a new specialist case manager to act on her behalf who then involved a great team of therapists who ensured she got the surgery and therapy she desperately needed to turn things around.

Now she’s moving to her own adapted bungalow with her own vehicle and assistants and is loving getting out and about again.
