Over £9 million secured in compensation for catastrophic injuries sustained in workplace accident
Helen Shaw - Partner in our Personal Injury team - received instructions to act on behalf of a young man who suffered catastrophic injuries - including a severe spinal cord injury - during the course of his employment, whilst operating a cherry picker.
The case remained fully defended throughout. With the benefit of an early inspection of the equipment & having obtained supportive expert evidence, it was possible to present a strong case for liability purposes. Additional evidence was then obtained to address the nature and extent of the client’s spinal cord injury together with evidence identifying his needs for 24/7 care, accommodation, specialist aids, equipment, therapies, transport and assistive technology.
At a subsequent Joint Settlement Meeting, it proved possible to negotiate settlement of his claim in the gross sum of £9,425,000.00, which will now enable the client to fund the cost of all of the areas carefully identified by the experts and will hopefully significantly improve the quality of life for both him and his family. Helen adds:
"This case also demonstrated the importance of adopting a pragmatic approach to the litigation for the benefit of a client with significant needs, which meant that all the relevant issues could be addressed much more expeditiously."
