Teacher forced to retire early due to head injury whilst at work

Barbara was working as a teacher in a special education school when she was struck on her head by a heavy door.

The magnetic fob-controlled door in the corridor was kicked open by a student, striking Barbara on the head causing her to lose consciousness and fall to the floor.

Initially after the accident, Barbara suffered weakness in her right leg and left hand which affected her mobility outdoors and some daily living activities.

Barbara’s concentration was significantly reduced and she had to take frequent breaks. She was also easily frustrated and suffered with increased levels of anxiety. Barbara was diagnosed with post-concussional syndrome with symptoms including fatigue, poor concentration, poor memory and altered personality.

As a consequence of her injuries, Barbara retired early on ill-health grounds shortly after the accident. Potter Rees Dolan was successful in achieving a settlement which reflected the extent of the injuries and impact on Barbara’s life.
