Hugh Potter

Hugh is Joint Head of the Manchester Office and Head of the Personal lnjury team here at Potter Rees Dolan. Throughout his career, Hugh has acted on behalf of clients with brain and spinal cord injuries of the utmost severity, as well as having experience handing professional negligence cases, achieving record settlements with a reputation recognised nationally. 

Education & career

Hugh studied law at Nottingham University - graduating in 1985 - and qualified as a solicitor in 1988. When asked what inspired his career in law, Hugh says he developed an interest in serious injuries while working as a nurse during university holidays at a neurological hospital. He comments:

"It sounds trite, but I wanted to support those who were seriously disadvantaged."

Hugh went on to establish Hugh Potter & Company on 1st May 1998, providing legal services to those who have sustained devastating injuries. As the firm expanded, Hugh Potter & Co became Potter Rees Serious Injury Solicitors in 2004 and finally Potter Rees Dolan in April of 2014. Hugh says his favourite aspect of his role at Potter Rees Dolan is:

"...the people I am lucky enough to interact with!"

Successful cases

Hugh acted for the Claimant in Wilkinson v Churchill referred by the Court of Appeal to the ECJ and has achieved several record settlements, including the case of MM with settlement on full liability basis of £25 million and the case of TTT where damages of £30 million were secured.

Outside of work...

With a love for the outdoors, in his spare time Hugh enjoys cycling, mountain biking and hikes around the fells of the Lake District.
