Peter Renshaw
Peter is the firm’s Welfare Benefits adviser and a qualified solicitor. Peter has always had an interest in disability and equality rights, which stems from family circumstances and which led to him becoming a solicitor.
Education & career
Peter graduated from Liverpool John Moores University (then Liverpool Polytechnic) in 1988 with a degree in Law. After graduating, Peter worked predominantly in the public and charitable sectors previously. This included working for six years as a Caseworker for the Disability Rights Commission, five years as a Welfare Benefits Peer Reviewer for the Legal Services Commission and seven years working in a senior MOJ role. He went on to complete a one year training contract and qualified as a solicitor in 1998.
Peter joined Potter Rees Dolan in 2003, on a part time basis, and was promoted to Partner in 2019. His role here at Potter Rees Dolan includes running our Welfare Benefits department, as well as assisting with the firm's Legal Surgery and working with our Court of Protection department - supervising relevant work, ensuring deputy compliance with their Standards and in-house litigation file work. Peter works closely with national brain injury charity Headway and their local branches, and others such as Brain Charity, ACSIL, BASIC and SIA.
Outside of work...
Peter is an avid Manchester City fan and Sunday league footballer himself, he also enjoys a good beer, a spot of swimming and talking politics.

The expertise of Potter Rees Dolan was exactly what was required in overturning a PIP decision which I considered to be both wrong and unfair. We have total respect, admiration and gratitude for the work carried out on our behalf by Ms Amy Dennis and Mr Peter Renshaw of Potter Rees Dolan. Every phone call was answered, every email was responded to, every deadline met...We fully endorse recommendations to Potter Rees Dolan solicitors, particularly for those with hidden disabilities and who cannot find their way through the maze of PIP.

I was referred to Potter Rees Dolan and Peter Renshaw, after having contacted the Headway Helpline (the National Charity for Brain Injury) in April 2018, when I desperately needed legal advice over a Benefit Claim. Since then Peter has unerringly steered us through not just one but two claims on behalf of my son and has achieved the best possible outcomes imaginable in both cases. His considered professional advice, guidance and support has been absolutely invaluable and everything has been undertaken on a pro bono basis. I repeat what I have previously said “Mr Renshaw is a remarkable man and my son and I owe him a huge debt of gratitude”. Thank you Peter and thanks also to Amy and Suzanne for the brilliant work you do.
