£137m investment to encourage cycling & walking in Manchester

Greater Manchester announces its largest ever investment in cycling and walking with £137 million pounds to be spent on new projects.

The plans include 70 miles of new walking and cycling routes throughout the area, as well as 14 miles of Dutch-style cycle lanes that are to be protected from motor vehicle traffic.

The proposals have been detailed as follows:

  • A £10.7 million cycling and walking corridor in Rochdale
  • A £11.6 million route between Manchester Piccadilly and Victoria stations via the Northern Quarter
  • A spectacular 100 metre cycling and walking bridge linking Stockport railway station with the proposed new interchange
  • A £14.6 million bid to revolutionise travel on foot and by bike in Leigh, Atherton and Tyldesley

Hugh Potter, Partner and Head of Personal Injury here at PRD - and avid cyclist, comments:

“Fabulous news for all road users. Less use of busy roads by cyclists must be good. Can we have some more please Mayor Burnham?”
