Another death at Tameside Hospital due to clinical gross negligence

We were saddened to read about the tragic circumstances surrounding 66 year old mum of two, Shelia Johnson’s death and would like to extend our sincere condolences to her family at what must be a very emotional and difficult time.

It is always sad when a loved one passes away but we cannot begin to imagine what Mrs Johnson’s family must be going through following the Inquest into her death which found at least two instances of “gross negligence” in relation to the care and treatment she received at Tameside General Hospital in 2013 in the days before she died.

The Inquest process aims to fully explore all the circumstances surrounding a death and, as was the case with Mrs Johnson, can also identify any failures in relation to the care and treatment provided to the individual at the time of their death.

We understand that following Mrs Johnson’s death in 2013 Tameside General Hospital “have since embarked on a significant improvement journey and made a great deal of progress." However, in January this year, a report into the death rates at Tameside General Hospital found that it was still higher than expected.

Here at PotterReesDolan our Clinical Negligence department continue to work with families who have lost loved ones through failures within the health system and we continue to be saddened by such tragic matters despite our many years of experience.
