Both buses and trains are wheelchair accessible but not planes - why not?

A wonderful video showing one mum’s battle to be able to travel and go on holiday with her son by looking for solutions to enable wheelchairs to be used on aeroplanes.

I have heard of countless examples where wheelchair users have suffered indignities due to not being able to remain in their wheelchairs for flights.

I have also heard, and seen first-hand, the damage which can be caused to wheelchairs when they are transported in the hold of a plane. These chairs are often state of the art and cost thousands of pounds so damage occurring to them during a flight can be catastrophic for the user and mean they are unable to enjoy their holiday due to a lack of mobility options.

A solution which would allow wheelchair users to remain in their own chair would be fantastic as it would reduce damage to chairs but would also enable those who cannot travel in standard plan seating due to their postural requirements, to travel by plane and access and explore parts of the world which, at the moment, may be off limits to them.

I hope Michelle Erwin is successful in her campaign and I will be watching closely for the day when we have equality in travel.
