Campaigners are calling for a ban on all private cars and lorries on the streets of the City of London after another cyclist died in the capital earlier this week.

The young woman was crushed to death by a tipper truck after a road traffic accident on Monday morning and has become the eighth cyclist to be killed this year alone.

The London Cycling Campaign (LCC) staged a protest this morning [pictured] during rush hour to campaign for only public transport to be allowed on historic and busy roads in the capital.

Charlie Lloyd. from the LCC, said:

In most European cities, crowded and historic roads like this one would only allow public transport. We don’t think there should ne any motor vehicle here, it’s a very busy crossroads in the centre of town.

This cyclist, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, comes after another fatal accident involving a cyclist in the early hours of Sunday also in London.

Jeremy Smith, Solicitor at PotterReesDolan, said:

Our hearts go out to this young woman’s family who have suffered such a such and tragic loss.

At PotterReesDolan we see only too often the terrible results of cycling accidents and look forward to the day when better road traffic safety measures are put in place to give cyclists the protection they need.
