The British Heart Foundation’s campaign for more people to learn how to do CPR and use defibrillators, part of its Restart a Heart campign will see 150,000 people learn CPR on 16th October.
Research shows that just one in 10 people who suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital survive and each minute someone goes without effective CPR, or the use of a defibrillator, their chances of survival decrease by 10%.
Encouraging more people to become first aiders and able to administer CPR has the potential to save lives and is something we here at Potter Rees Dolan are fully on-board with.
We have ensured that we have a defibrillator in our office and more than half our team have been trained in the proper use of the defibrillator with CPR with in-house first aiders as well.
Whilst it is of course something that you never hope to have to use, as the brave story of Carly Williams shows, having that knowledge can save a life when you least expect it.
