New countdown crossings will help end the 'blackout' period for pedestrians when crossing the road.
The new technology shows a numerical counter to show how long pedestrians have left to safely cross the road, introduced in the capital last year.
Statistics from TfL show how the number of pedestrians killed and seriously injured during 2014 reduced by 7% compared to the previous year.Transport for London (TfL) has announced another 400 countdown crossings will be implemented by next summer.
Plans to make the roads in London safer have been at the forefront of TfL's aims and this is a step in the right direction.
Nicola Mepstead, Senior Solicitor at PotterReesDolan, said:
The plan for London appears to be far more comprehensive than for Manchester, where the road safety plan is concentrating on changing people’s behaviour and attitudes, for example, by awareness courses for those caught speeding. It would be good to see the type of plans produced here copied throughout the country.
