Cyclist threatened and tailed by car driver on narrow street

A video was posted online showing a motorist threatening a cyclist cycling along a narrow street.

TV presenter Jeremy Vine, who is a keen cyclist, was verbally assaulted by a woman driving her car very close behind him.

His video footage (which can be viewed below via The Guardian) shows him coming to a stop on his bike and the woman getting out of the car and swearing at him.

Hugh Potter, partner at PotterReesDolan and fellow cyclist, said:

This footage is really frightening. Unfortunately it’s not unusual.

I had something almost identical happen to me just a few weeks ago when in the pouring rain a clearly frustrated motorist deliberately overtook at speed, squeezed me into the puddles by the kerb and then hammered on the brakes just in front of me. Crazy.

I hope this video brings the issue to light and reduces the chance of this sort of behaviour happening in the future.

Mr Vine explains to the woman he was trying to stay a car's width from the cars parked on both sides of the narrow road

After shouting at Mr Vine, the woman returns to her car and begins tailing him again, almost hitting a parked car at one point.

The pair meet again at a red traffic light at a junction where Mr Vine asks her not to hit him as she has already verbally assaulted him.

Mr Vine then claims the woman formed her hand into the shape of a gun which she 'fired' at him although this is not shown on the video footage.
