Lorry drivers in the capital could be fined £1,000 if their mirrors and guards aren't up to specifications under new law.
However, cyclists in Manchester are urging for the same new law to come into effect in the region to help prevent cyclist injuries.
Drivers of large HGVs who do not have side guards to prevent cyclists being dragged under a moving lorry now banned in London's roads.
We wrote previously how campaigners called for the ban after another cyclist died in the city.
Lorries must also have extra mirrors to give the driver a better view of cyclists.
Cycling campaigners in Manchester believe the amount of building works currently in the city is bringing bigger vehicles into the centre.
Jeremy Smith, Solicitor at PotterReesDolan, said:
Lorries need to be made safer for cyclists so this is a good move but why only London?
I certainly think this should be introduced in Manchester (and indeed everywhere else) as soon as possible.
Transport bosses in Manchester, however, have confirmed there are no immediate plans to follow laws in London.
Over 100 convex cycle safety mirrors have been fitted to traffic light junctions to help drivers spot cyclists.
