This eye-opening and though-provoking documentary gave us an insight into the lives of four people with a brain injury.
Louis Theroux uncovered the issues and long-term effects of a brain injury by speaking to staff and users of a Brain Rehabilitation Unit.
Comparing their old lives and the way they live now, it was obvious to see how a brain injury is life-changing not only for the injured individual but their family too.
We saw how the 'hidden disability' can often have no physical change on a person but the behaviour and personality changes can be huge.
Jeanne Evans, senior personal injury solicitor at PotterReesDolan, said:
This documentary highlighted a key issue for me; independence after brain injury. We saw the impact of brain injury upon the family unit when the wife/mother of a young family moved home after a period of rehabilitation.
We saw also the vulnerability of those with brain injury in society with the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) ably describing the importance of support which keeps the injured person safe as they relearn and recover but with minimal restrictions to their independence.
The message to be taken is that rehabilitation is the key to maximising independence after brain injury.
