Is this a helmet your child would want to wear?

A new prototype has been created to encourage more children to wear a helmet when cycling.

Modelled on the Lego hair, the designers hope this is a helmet a child would actually want to wear as it was based around an object easily-recognisable to children.

The Danish design company MOEF produced the prototype by taking the head from a Playmobil figure, putting it through a 3D scanner and playing around with dimensions.

Hugh Potter, head of personal injury at PotterReesDolan, said:

I am not sure the hair suits me at all. Particularly the blond. But if it encourages others to bike and makes them safer I am all for it!

The design is only a prototype at the moment but perhaps one day we'll see children with all sorts of helmet hairstyles cycling along our streets.

Hugh understands the effects not wearing a helmet can have on a child and so any chance of preventing a brain injury is paramount.

We've recently written about a study which found wearing a helmet can reduce the risk of sustaining a brain injury by 70%.
