Hospital admits death of baby was due to unreasonable use of forceps during delivery

I recently read the absolutely heart-breaking article in the MEN regarding the death of baby Thomas Beaty in April 2014 which has now been admitted as being caused by a head injury suffered as a result of repeated and unreasonable use of forceps during his delivery.

It was really very upsetting to read about his parents' experiences following his death, having to go home without the new baby they had been planning and longing for.

I was also quite upset to read that it took the Trust until now to admit their mistake and confirm to Baby’s Thomas’ parents that changes have been put in place so that no other family has to suffer in the same way they have done.

I sometimes wonder why it takes Trust so long to admit to mistakes and if they realise that by drawing this out they are prolonging the pain and suffering of the parents left behind, as Hannah Beaty commented in the article, they are only now able to grieve for the loss of their son.
