Today marks the beginning of Road Safety Week which is the flagship annual event in the UK by the charity Brake to promote safety on the road.
The theme this year is 'drive less, live more' to make people think about how much they use their car and whether they could use a different transport method.
The charity published new figures today which showed how 75% of drivers surveyed think people in the UK use their cars too much.
Brake also revealed that air pollution is estimated to kill 52,500 people a year in the UK so this campaign to reduce the number of cars on the road would also protect the environment and public health.
The campaign aims to make roads safer, especially for people on foot and bike, as well as help people save money and making communities more pleasant.
Hugh Potter, Partner at PotterReesDolan, said:
It looks like almost everyone would benefit from more cycling by more of us….so how about dusting off the bike and signing up to campaign for safer roads for cyclists?
Brake also published statistics which showed how 43% of adults don't meet the recommended 150 minutes of exercise per week.
The charity suggests cycling or a brisk walk could meet these targets as well as offering an alternative to driving to and from work.
With five deaths and 64 serious injuries occurring on the UK roads every day, these statistics see an increase in 4% compared to last year.
