At Potter Rees Dolan, we’re keen to support small charities and the amazing work they do across the nation. As such, we have an ongoing ‘Featured Charity’ campaign that features our blog pages, where we’ll focus on the inspirational stories of charities and how they were founded. This time last year, our featured charity was 'Reuben's Retreat' - a home-from-home for families bereaved of a child and for children with life limiting or threatening conditions and their parents and siblings.

Today marks 7 years since the passing of little Reuben Graham, who tragically died aged just 23 months after suffering an atypical terratoid rhabdoid tumour - a very rare and aggressive form of Cancerous tumour. In our latest blog, we wanted to once again shine a light on this amazing charity which was set up by Reuben's mother Nicola just two days after his passing...

In Reuben’s memory

Reuben’s Retreat was founded on 23rd August 2012, two days after Nicola’s 23-month old son, Reuben, passed away following the discovery of the cancerous brain tumour just seven days earlier.

The care the family received during Reuben’s time in hospital and the families they met in similar circumstances inspired Nicola to start a charity in her son’s name. Speaking of the heartbreaking time, Nicola said:

I could not bear to think of Reuben's little life being in vain. We were unable to donate Reuben's organs, so I desperately wanted to do something to make his life worthwhile.

Reuben’s Retreat walks side-by-side with:

  • Children and young people who have a life limiting and/or life threatening illness and their parents and siblings
  • Parents and siblings that have a lost a child

The charity support beneficiaries from across the UK through a range of support services including:
