An investment was made by Manchester City Council and TfGM earlier this year to introduce extended bike lanes in the city.
The first of the changes can now be found opposite Whitworth Park where TFGM have installed the first 'Dutch style' bus stop and bike lane.
The image here shows how, instead of overtaking a bus, this layout enables to cyclist to ride 'behind' the bus stop to make it safer for cyclists.
Although only built as part of a trial, TfGM are gathering feedback from cyclists who use this route for when they are rolled out on Oxford Road in the future.
The coloured cycleway informs riders, pedestrians and bus passengers of the layout so everyone can look out for each other.
TfGM are working to improve over 25 miles of the bus network which is the largest investment in decades.

I’ll be interested to try this out … it will certainly be good not to have to swerve around buses into the traffic although I’ll have to keep a sharp lookout for pedestrians who haven’t spotted that it’s a cycle lane!
