New maternity support workers were recently recruited in Manchester hospitals following concerns over pressures on maternity units.
PotterReesDolan wrote last week how midwives were concerned about the pressure on maternity units which could increase NHS mistakes with clinical negligence and birth injuries in women and babies.
The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has recruited 40 additional maternity healthcare support workers after an investment of £1 million.
The new members of staff were introduced in an aim to improve the individual experience of women and babies in North Manchester General Hospital and The Royal Oldham Hospital.
With the help of additional support staff, midwives will be able to focus on giving specialist care to women and babies knowing the maternity support staff will cover routine fundamental care.
We at PotterReesDolan feel it is encouraging to see some investment being made in this particularly vulnerable area of childcare and it’s a promising step in the right direction.
