Cyclists campaign on Manchester streets for 'Space for Cycling'

A bike ride as part of a national campaign was held this week during the Conservative Conference in Manchester City Centre.

The Space for Cycling campaign aims to create conditions where anyone can cycle anywhere to encourage cycle-friendly streets in the community.

The campaign wants people to call on their local Councillors to pledge their support for cycle-friendly planning and funding.

Manchester cyclists took to the city's streets this week where cycling politicians were invited to address the crowd.

Jeremy Smith, Solicitor at PotterReesDolan, said:

I class myself as an experienced cyclist and cycle into work every day but I can easily see how the volume and speed of traffic and lack of safe space would put many people off cycling, so I’m very pleased to support the Greater Manchester Cycling Campaign. I’ve signed their petition calling for safe Space for Cycling and would encourage others to do the same.

Space for Cycling is calling for protected space on main roads for cyclists, lower speed limits and cycle-friendly town centres.

Campaigners are also urging for safe cycle routes to schools and removing through motor traffic in residential areas.
